H5P

A tool for interactive content

H5P provides the opportunity to produce student-activating teaching content, including graphic interactive learning material, quizzes, automated feedback and interactive courses. The tool is integrated into Brightspace and therefore supports the preparation and use of graphic and interactive content as a strengthening of Brightspace's own content types.

In H5P, teachers can work with more than 50 different content types. See a full list with elaborating examples on H5P's website.

Access

You can access H5P either via the content menu in Brightspace (see instructions further down the page).

Use the tool for:

  • Multiple Choice: Multiple choice questions allows the teacher to let the students choose between one or more correct answers.

  • Flashcards: In Flashcards, the user is given a clue in the form of graphic material and text and must write an answer based on that.

  • Interactive Book: Interactive Book works as a learning process that can accommodate other types of content such as multiple choice, tests, interactive videos and much more. In this way, Interactive Book can structure a process with background texts, testing and visualizations.

  • Drag-n-drop questions: The students themselves have to submit their answers by 'dragging' an answer option and combining it with another.

Tool functions

Integration

Integration: H5P elements can be easily integrated on other platforms such as Brightspace, Padlet or on a website, and as a user, you do not get the experience that it is an external element.

Reuse

Your H5p elements are saved on your user and can be reused across courses.

Sharing

A quiz in H5P can be easily shared - also with people who do not have an H5P user.

Branching learning courses (branching questions)

The students are presented with different questions depending on their answers to previous questions. In that way you can create differentiated teaching or the students can choose content based on interest.

Use H5P in your teaching

Creation of quizzes

Quizzes can be used as an expectation exercise prior to a teaching session by asking students questions about a topic that makes them reflect on their expectations or preconceptions. Quizzes can also be used to gain insight into whether the students have understood a subject correctly after teaching.

Interactive videos

With interactive videos, you can ask the viewer a multiple choice question during a video. The students must reflect on the academic content of the video before they can continue watching.

Interactive teaching material

By integrating H5P elements into your Brightspace course, the course becomes more dynamic and interactive.

4. Create an Interactive Book with H5P

This guide shows how to create and insert an Interactive Book in Brightspace via H5P. An Interactive Book is a tool with many different functions, so the guides highlights a few of the options you have with the tool. You can always see the demo of the tool before using it. You can see how to find the demo in the guide.

5. Add/remove a co-editor from an H5P element

This guide shows how to add or remove an instructor from an H5P element.

Note: When adding a co-instructor to an H5P element, they must have used H5P before. They can then be added even if they are not an instructor for the course where the H5P element is used.
