Repetition sheet

Brief description

In this activity, the students must fill in a repetition sheet several times during the course in preparation for class. The repetition sheet must contain relevant theories, keywords or time periods that can be related to the teaching syllabus.

Motivation for the activity and required outcome

When completing the repetition sheet in preparation for class, the students’ reading activity will be focused, which will increase their outcome. After the teaching session, this activity provides them with an overview when preparing for exams, or it can be used for reference purposes.

Performing the activity

  • You as a teacher must design a form for the students to fill in. This form must match the subject-related content of the course. You may find examples for inspiration under “You will need” in the right-hand column in this page. This may be a form in which the students must enter information regarding historical periods, relevant concepts, methods or theories.
  • Distribute the form to the students at the beginning of the course - in either a printed or an online version.
  • The students will complete the form when preparing for classes during the course. The form may be completed individually or in study groups.
  • Once the course has ended, the students have a form that provides them with an overview of the most important concepts, themes etc., which they may use for their exams or at a later stage in their studies.

Options:

  • It will be easier for the students to add points and adjust the repetition sheet at a later stage if you make it accessible online. On the other hand, acquisition of knowledge may also be included in filling out a form physically on paper.
  • You may make the form accessible to the class as a blog or ask one study group to complete it in preparation of each teaching session. During the session, you may review the group response and possibly correct misunderstandings or fill out knowledge gaps.
  • You may make your own repetition sheet and explain it to your students in the last teaching session when summing up the entire course. This will enable you to correct misunderstandings, fill in knowledge gaps and create space for final questions.

    Examples of Practice

      You will need:

      Worth considering:

      • Should the activity be an option for the students to choose or should it be a compulsory element?
      • What would you like the students to focus on in their preparation and to remember afterwards? You should include this in your repetition sheet.
      • Will you use the repetition sheet actively in your teaching?
