Exam: Assessment form 

Brief description

This assessment form can be used to ensure the uniform assessment of written assignments based on consideration of all their important aspects. The form was originally produced to assess Studium Generale, but can be adjusted to suit other courses as well.

Motivation for the activity and required outcome

The form helps you to be clear about your requirements for student assignments, and ensures that you assess these assignments in a uniform manner. It will naturally inspire you to prepare arguments and focal points in relation to an assessment situation, and can also be used as an element in a feedback process with the students. At first you will probably have to spend more time on the assessment process – until you have learned to assess the requirements on which you have chosen to focus. However, the assessment form will give you far more time and energy for deliberation and feedback, as well as enabling you to document the quality of your assessment work.

Performing the activity

 

  • Download the assessment form. It can be downloaded for completion in Word, or printed for completion on paper. If you print it, you can use the assessment form as a cover by printing all three pages on a single A3 sheet. Fold the sheet down the middle so that page 1 is the front page of the cover and pages 2 and 3 are on the inside.
  • Fill out page 1 while reading the assignment. Write comments on each section and assess the section on this basis. The red square corresponds to the grade 02, while the square to the right of the happy smiley face corresponds to 12.
  • Fill out pages 2 and 3 as a summary after reading the assignment. You should be especially thorough in filling out page 3 to ensure that you consider every detail (large or small).
  • Give a combined grade based on a qualitative assessment of all parts of the assignment, as written in the form.

Adjusting the assessment form

  • Write down the basis for assessment as precisely as possible to ensure that other people will understand what you are looking for. For instance, it is not sufficient to write ‘a sense of academic work’. Instead, you could write: ‘Can use academic literature as the basis of arguments’.
  • Download the Word version of the assessment form.
  • Adjust the form so it includes the written points where relevant.
